Fun?

What do you like to do for fun that includes your spouse?

“We don’t do it very often, but I enjoy fishing together,” says Libby.

“That’s interesting,” I think to myself.

We do that only when we are with her family or with friends who own a boat and equipment. And for me, it’s only fun if we are catching fish. But it is great fun seeing Libby catch a fish.

“And anything we do with grandkids is fun,” she goes on. Without a doubt.
“And watching Tar-heel basketball,” she adds.

That’s especially fun this season since they are doing so well. (And she always give me a big kiss when we win a close one.) Pretty positive, right?

Although, I realize that when I think about fun, I’m more inclined to think about what “I” do for fun rather than what “we” do for fun. Exercising, biking, reading are all private experiences. I would like to find ways to raise our FTQ, Fun Together Quotient. Otherwise, I might slip into the mindset of seeing marriage as a responsibility rather than as a delight.
