Good Moments
Make a short list of some “good moments” you have experienced in the last two weeks. Something you did, someone you enjoyed, somewhere you went, something you accomplished, something you learned, something you are reading.
(Generally, not focused on your marriage.)
Our Experience
“You always start with me. How about starting with yourself this time,” Libby said.
Well, when you have a five-year-old grandson living around the corner you have plenty of good moments, along with great conversations with the other grandkids who are not local. It was great when McRae, our eighteen-year-old granddaughter who is a freshman in college answered my phone call one night and filled me in on how she was enjoying college.
Getting two friends together for breakfast which we had not done, perhaps since before the pandemic was a great moment.
Mowing the yard for the first time since I broke my foot in June was a good moment.
Joining a new group at church on Thursday nights to take the course, Practicing the Way, by John Mark Comer produced a lot of good moments, such as connecting with people outside of our usual circle.
Libby’s list included a lot of family things, like getting a video today of two of our sons jumping off a cliff into a lake, while they are on a wilderness-leadership experience will always make glad the heart of a mother.
It was a good moment when she sold online 4 antique oak T-back chairs that had been in our garage for a few years.
As you would expect, most of her good moments involved people she was with.
We noticed that these things happen when we intentionally pay attention to our good moments.
We automatically become more grateful.
We whine and complain less about our disappointments and hard moments.
We notice what activities do not make our list. TV doesn’t, especially political talk shows. Instagram and Facebook (only me) do not make the list.
We discover more about who we are and what is important to us.
We begin to plan good moments, becoming more proactive instead of just letting life happened to us.
What have been some of your good moments?
(Next week, let’s talk about our Hard Moments.)
