Coping

How do you cope with losing Daylight Savings Time?

Perhaps you don’t even notice the time change, and if that’s true, good for you.

“I hate it,” Libby says.

“Just plan on moderate depression and every light in the house being on.”

“On sunny days plan for me to be outside every possible minute.”

Ever since we moved from Boston to North Carolina, I have not complained about the time change. There, it seemed as if the sun went down around 3:20. Not really, but the sun was blinding on the horizon.

Even though I say I don’t mind it, I can’t resist taking a screen shot of sunrise/sunset charts for the months of November through February. And since where we live the sun never sets before 5:00, I feel pretty good. And in January when the days are obviously getting longer, I feel like I’ve cheated winter.

The change of season gives me a cozy feeling, like I should be sitting in front of the fire in my L.L. Bean flannel shirt. (Sure, it’s a gas-log fire, but it’s something.)

How do you cope?
